My background

I was born in Iran and moved to Israel when I was eight. I speak English, Hebrew, and Farsi. Today, I live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where I run the business side of Amáli Jewelry.

Starting in sales

I started working in jewelry in 2002 as a traveling sales representative for David Tishbi. I traveled around the U.S. selling jewelry to stores. Often, that meant walking in without an appointment, introducing myself, and asking to show the collection.

That work taught me how to approach buyers, present a collection, handle rejection, and follow up. Building relationships was a large part of the job, and it’s still a large part of what I do.

From 2011 to 2015, I ran my own independent jewelry sales company, representing collections and working directly with retailers.

Working with retailers

My experience includes working with independent stores as well as larger companies such as Sundance Catalog and TJ Maxx.

With Sundance, my work included meeting with buyers, showing samples, providing product information, and developing products for them.

With TJ Maxx, I arranged appointments, worked on pricing, followed up, and built relationships with buyers.

I’ve also participated in Accessories The Show, the NY Gift Show, the Couture Show, and retail shows. My experience includes selling both to store buyers and directly to customers.

Running Amáli

In September 2015, I joined Amáli, the jewelry brand founded by my wife, designer Sara Freedenfeld.

As CEO, I manage sales and finances, oversee our salespeople, and work on hiring. I set plans and direction for the business and work on strategy. I’m also involved in some product development alongside Sara.

Having worked both as a sales representative and as a business owner, I understand the work involved in getting a collection into stores and managing the business behind it.

Why I do this work

I want to help jewelry designers build their businesses and brands. I know how difficult it can be to start and grow a jewelry business. Through my experience in the jewelry industry, I understand the challenges designers face as they build a business around their collections.

I like helping people. That’s what draws me to advisory work: being able to share what I’ve learned and help designers work through the questions and decisions they’re facing.

We’ll look at what’s happening in your business, talk about what’s working and what’s difficult, and decide what to address first.
